Program Description:

This course will include a brief review of the top takeaways from the 2024 AAHA Fluid Therapy Guidelines.

It will also provide a comprehensive overview of the updated 2025 ACVAA Small Animal Monitoring Guidelines. Participants will learn about the latest recommendations for monitoring circulation, oxygenation, ventilation, body temperature, neuromuscular blockade, and anesthetic depth in feline and canine patients. The course will also cover monitoring during sedation, personnel recommendations, and the use of cognitive aids. This information is crucial for anyone involved in providing anesthesia or sedation in small animal practice, from veterinary technicians and assistants to veterinarians and specialists.

Additionally this course covers the new 2024 updates to the RECOVER CPR guidelines. Because of the length of the lecture, a basic understanding of the original guidelines is ideal. This course will cover all the updates that have changed from the original guidelines.

• This lecture will discuss the 2024 updates that include changes to:
• New updated algorithms
• Basic life support (compressions, ventilation)
• Advanced life support (drug administration, shockable rhythm management)
• Monitoring (ETCO2 targets, ROSC guidelines)

RECOVER Learning Objectives:

1. Follow and properly utilize the various CPR algorithm charts, as well as the updated dosing chart.
2. Recognize the appropriate compression point, depth, and patient position for each patient size and conformation.
3. Recognize and appropriately respond to various ECG rhythms seen during an arrest scenario.
4. The updates provided in this lecture should be combined with their knowledge of the previous RECOVER guidelines to have a complete understanding of the current RECOVER CPR guidelines.
