Program Description:

The course involves the discussion of the use of acepromazine and seizures; science behind gabapentin and different types of post-operative pain; and pharmacology/physiology of the use of dexmedetomidine in patients with heart disease. Additionally includes a panel discussion on the topic.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will learn the relational concepts between blood pressure, cardiac output, vascular resistance, and tissue perfusion.
  2. Attendees will learn the different methods of non-invasive and invasive blood pressure measurement techniques commonly used in veterinary species.
  3. Attendees will understand the limitations of each method discussed above.
  4. Attendees will understand how to interpret the results obtained from Doppler ultrasonic flow detector, oscillometry, and invasive blood pressure methods.
