Anesthesia Risk Assessment: How Does Risk Affect Drug Selection?

ASA risk classification allows a technician or doctor to choose the correct drugs for surgery. Each class of premedication, induction agent, inhalant, anti-inflammatory and local block will be discussed and within these classes, individual drugs scrutinized for whether they should be used for high or low risk cases. In the long run, the formulation of the anesthesia plan follows a typical menu” and this protocol will be presented for both high and low risk feline and canine cases to better assist solid anesthesia management.”
