Anesthesia Risk Assessment: How to Determine Risk for Each Patient

Course Details

This lecture has been RACE Approved for 1 CE hour for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Each practice should have a few anesthesia protocols in house to use for their many varieties of patients. Determining which drugs to use by troubleshooting their problem lists and then optimizing patient’s entry into anesthesia is an important foree into the surgical suite. The key to success in formulating the drug plan is identifying the risk (ASA=American society of Anesthesiologists) class of the patient, organizing drugs according to this risk, and then managing the case, mitigating the intraoperative problems with appropriate responses based on the risk and the drugs. This course will teach the technician how to give a mini physical exam, focus on bloodwork and other diagnostics, and then review a history for particular facts that allow separation of a patient into first high and low risk categories, then ultimately ASA risk class in preparation for successful anesthesia.
