Anesthetic Considerations for the Draft Horse

This segment reviews the unique considerations for draft horse anesthesia. This program will provide the participant a review of cardiac output physiology in the context of peripheral perfusion and oxygen delivery. This segment will also provide the participant with a better understanding of allometric scaling and how the increased body size of draft horses will affect the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the anesthetic protocol selections. It will also provide multiple strategies for managing hypoxemia and hypotension in the intraoperative environment which could be applicable to any anesthetic case. Lastly, by using and upper airway surgery example, this segment will also provide the participant with multiple considerations and management strategies for this specific type of procedure.
