Anesthetic Management of the Equine Dystocia

This lecture has been RACE Approved for 1 CE hour for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

This segment reviews the anesthetic considerations for the periparturient mare. This presentation will provide the participant with a review of physiologic changes with pregnancy and with fetal development. This course will also provide the participant with the pharmacologic differences and considerations between the pregnant mare and the non-pregnant animal and will provide the basic understanding needed to develop an appropriate anesthetic plan for these cases. This presentation will also provide management strategies for intraoperative complications including severe V/Q mismatching, hypotension, and ventilatory control.
