Arterial Blood Gas Interpretation (Equine)
Course Details
This lecture has been RACE approved for 0.5 CE for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
The primary objective of this segment is to review the fundamental concepts of acid-base status and pulmonary function in the horse and provide practice to improve the proficiency of blood gas interpretation. The participant will review the different oxygenation indices (including the a/A ratio, A-a gradient, and P/F ratio as a marker of gas exchange efficiency in the lung. The course also reviews the basics of acid-base physiology and how the blood gas parameters define the acid-base status of the patient. The participant will then have eight practice examples that walk them through a systematic approach to interpreting arterial blood gas.
