Arterial Catheterization and Direct/Invasive Blood Pressure Monitoring

This module will guide a participant through indications, methods, advantages and problems involved in placement of an arterial catheter and invasive blood pressure monitoring through this catheter in dogs and cats. Literature which compares invasive to non-invasive techniques (doppler and oscillometric) means of blood pressure assessment will be presented. Techniques of placement, cabling, transducer preparation and troubleshooting will be reviewed in an effort to allow the viewer a practical guide to placement of the cannula and use of direct measurement.
