Brief Overview of Anesthesia for Blunt Trauma Patient

Program Description:

This course will provide an overview of pre-op, and peri-op management of blunt trauma patients suitable for the general practitioner and technician. Brief discussion of pathophysiology of trauma, concepts of damage control resuscitation, trauma associated coagulopathy, indications for urgent surgery and management of anemia will be presented in a case scenario format.

1. Understand pathophysiology of polytrauma with special focus on reducing iatrogenic harm.
2. Be familiar with steps to assess and stabilize trauma patients.
3. Understand trauma associated coagulopathy.
4. Considerations of the timing of surgery and know the approach to common comorbidities associated with blunt trauma
