Canine Upper Airway Emergencies – Lecture 2 – Laryngeal Paralysis

This lecture has been RACE approved for 1 CE hour for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

This course covers current emergency stabilization and treatment for laryngeal paralysis. Upper airway evaluation, evaluation for comorbid diseases, and short/long term treatment goals are discussed. Additionally, information is provided regarding the correctional surgical procedure: arytenoid lateralization (tie-back). Statistical data is provided on all facets of both medical and surgical management including median survival times, outcomes/prognosis, and complications.

• Emergency stabilization of the upper airway
• Airway evaluation: Diagnosing laryngeal paralysis in the ER
• Short- and long-term medical management recommendations
• Description of surgical arytenoid lateralization (tie-back procedure)
• Statistical Data: MST, complication rates, and outcomes
