Hypoglycemia: Gimme Some Sugar!

Hypoglycemia is a condition commonly associated with our neonate and pediatric patients, but it is a condition that can affect all ages. In this lecture, we will discuss the pathophysiology and etiology of hypoglycemia, as well as the effects on the homeostatic regulatory systems. Attendees will learn clinical signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and the systematic approach needed to diagnose and treat hypoglycemia in the small animal patient. We will review specific disease processes that are most affected by hypoglycemia and the nursing concerns to consider when dealing with these patients.
