Imaging of Common Small Animal Emergencies

Course Details

This lecture has been RACE approved for 1 CE for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

This lecture will review many common emergencies seen in small animal veterinary medicine, and the diagnosis that can be made through imaging. Concentration will focus on radiographs but images from other modalities (ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI) may be included. There will be a brief review of normal anatomy with discussion of quantitative observations that can be made from radiographs (Ex. vertebral heart score, intestinal distention in dog vs cat, renomegaly). Then a case series of common emergencies will be presented (Ex. dyspnea, acute vomiting). Examples will include feline asthma, congestive heart failure in dog/cat, pneumonia, collapsing trachea, mechanical intestinal ileus vs. functional intestinal ileus, pneumoperitoneum, dystocia, and urethral obstruction.
