Course Details
This lecture has been RACE approved for 1 CE for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
In this presentation, discussion with veterinarians and veterinary technicians will examine how to manage chronic kidney disease in the face of other medical conditions – e.g. thyroid disease, urinary tract infections, hypertension, hypercalcemia, diabetes mellitus. Discussion will focus on diagnostics for CKD and concurrent diseases in early and long-term monitoring. We will discuss the pathophysiology of chronic kidney disease as it correlates to comorbidities – e.g. vulnerable immune system in diabetes mellitus, reduced urine concentration secondary to both CKD and diabetes mellitus predisposes patients to urinary tract infections. Lastly, medical management of CKD and management of the comorbidities in the face of CKD will be reviewed. Clinical case examples will be used to help demonstrate important concepts.
