My Dog Hasn’t Pooped Since Discharge (5 minutes ago): Why clients don’t remember what we tell them

This lecture has been RACE Approved for 1 CE hour of continuing education credit for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

We have all had clients that seem to forget almost everything we discuss during an appointment or discharge. In human medicine, this phenomenon has been researched extensively. This lecture will discuss the research pertaining to recall of medical information by clients/patients. We will discuss common factors relating to the doctor (e.g., communication skills, use of everyday vs. medical language), factors relating to the client/patient (e.g., health literacy skills) and factors related to method of delivery (e.g., multimedia vs. written vs. oral presentation of medical information).
