The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is a federal agency that is a component of the United States of Department of Labor. OSHA was established in 1971, with the goal of ensuring that all Americans have access to a safe work environment. In 1970, the year before OSHA was created, it was estimated than 14,000 U.S. employees were killed on the job. Thanks to the efforts of OSHA and related state agencies, worker deaths and serious injuries have dramatically declined since that time, despite the work force continually growing.
