Pain Management in the Peri-operative Period

Course Details

This lecture has been RACE Approved for 1 CE hour of continuing education credit for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Objectives:
To discuss current literature regarding efficacy of commonly used analgesics & clarify appropriate routes of administration and drug dosages
To present both injectable and oral medication options for pain management in the perioperative period, with the focus being on oral medications
Drugs to be discussed include injectables (opioids, alpha-2 agonists, dissociatives) and oral medications (NSAIDs, oral opioids, gabapentin/pregabalin, amantadine) as well as a brief discussion on locoregional anesthesia
Encourage participants to utilize a multimodal approach to pain management in the perioperative period
