We as veterinary technicians have entered a profession in order to serve as caregivers for all animals, big and small. We have gone to great lengths to educate our brains and equipped ourselves with the skills and abilities that will help us to carry out a number of nursing care orders, but these skills can only take our patient care so far. What happens when orders are missing for a patient’s treatment plan? When does the need for critical thinking set in? How do we ensure that we are an active member of our patient’s medical team? Finding the answers to these questions can sometimes be the difference between a good technician and a GREAT technician! In this lecture, we will discuss the meaning of being a patient’s advocate and review ways of developing this essential skill in order to take your career to the next level!
