Perioperative Arrhythmias: Differentials, Simple Supportive Care Solutions, and Emergent Treatment

To identify common rhythm distrurbances that occur commonly in the realm of ansthesia and perioperative care; to better understand the outcome of rhythm abnormalities in monitoring endpoints such as blood pressure, pulse rate and quality, oxygenation and ventilation; to learn of the many secondary causes of arrhythmias in the periop period including anesthesia drugs, common anesthesia problems of hypos (hypoventilation, hypotension, hypoglycemia), pre-existing comorbidities and medications, and surgical procedures; to learn of basic supportive care troubleshooting for brady, normo and tachyarrhythmias; to determine when to treat patients with conservative management (tolerance of arrhythmia and support of life functions) or when to reach for anti-arrhythmic agents; to determine what class of agent to use to treat progressive and life threatening intraop arrhythmias.
