Perioperative Assessment of Respiratory Status in the Small Animal Patient

Learning Objectives:

• Learn which aspects of the physical exam, patient’s history, and diagnostics are the most salient for assessing respiratory function and capability.
• Discuss anesthetic protocols for patients with respiratory disease. Review the use of anesthetic monitoring equipment to evaluate and diagnose respiratory function.
• Learn how to identify and manage respiratory emergencies under anesthesia.
• Discuss post-anesthetic recoveries to improve morbidity and mortality associated with recovering patients with respiratory compromise.
