Physiology of Pain, Dorsal Horn States, and Classification of Pain

This lecture discusses the important steps in nociception (pain pathways), the terminology of changing pain states (sensitization, windup, plasticity), classification of acute and chronic pain, pathophysiology of pain via changing function and central anatomy (dorsal horn cells) and finally recognition of pain. Pain assessment is critical for prevention and treatment, and different species behavioral and vital parameter changes make recognition of pain possible; this seminar presents critical key aspects of assessment in line with current profession/industry guidelines and references.
