Preanesthetic Evaluation and Equipment Preparation, The Team Approach

This lecture has been RACE Approved for 1 CE hour for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Learning Objectives:

• Review the importance of pre-anesthetic check lists in patient planning and assessment and role of each member of the veterinary team.
• Review the importance of the roles of veterinary professionals involved in the pre-anesthetic assessment, anesthetic and analgesic planning and administration period and monitoring of the patient.
• Review the importance of proper equipment maintenance and preparation for anesthesia or sedation.
• Review recommendations for the pre-anesthetic preparation period including individualized patient assessment, diagnostic recommendations and justifications, the influence of history and signalment of process of anesthetic and sedation planning.
• Review the importance of the preanesthetic period assessment for identification of co-morbidities and impact for modifications to the anesthetic and analgesic plan.
