Premedication is the basis of a sound anesthesia plan or menu. Every premedication comprises: tranquilizer and opioid, combinations of which the attendee is expected to gain knowledge of in terms of indications, contraindications, expected cardiocerebropulmonary depression, and side effects. Anticholinergic medications, gastroprotective and motility modifying agents, and anti-inflammatories are other components which can be added to maintain appropriate balance. The attendee will learn options, advantages and alternatives for each class of these components. Several new opioids have entered the market recently, posing new alternatives which greatly affect reduction of induction agent and inhalation or maintenance agent percentage, both themselves important concepts in a balanced anesthesia approach. The attendee will gain knowledge of practical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, routes, doses and outcomes expected to formulate a better plan for safe anesthesia of both high and low risk cases.
