Regional Anesthesia and Analgesia for Abdominal Procedures

Program Description:

This lecture aims to provide a broad review of current locoregional anesthesia techniques to enhance perioperative analgesic management in small animals undergoing abdominal surgery. Relevant anatomical features of abdomen innervation, in the context of locoregional anesthesia techniques, will be briefly reviewed. The concept of interfacial plane blocks will be introduced, and techniques such as transversus abdominis plane block, and other ultrasound-guided techniques will be discussed. Finally, a few old and some new aspects of epidural anesthesia and analgesia in small animal patients will be reviewed.
