Separation Anxiety: Not Just for the Behaviorist Anymore!

Lecture Description:

Separation anxiety can be a devastating condition for dogs and their owners and it can be challenging to treat successfully. Understanding that the behaviors that are distressing to pet owners are just signs of extreme emotional distress in the dog is critical to long term success with treatment. This presentation will review the diagnosis, treatment and management of separation related distress in dogs.

Learning Objectives:

• Attendees will learn to recognize “red flags” that suggest separation related distress may be a problem.
• Attendees will learn how to diagnose separation related problems by reviewing history and looking at video of the dog’s behavior.
• Attendees will learn how to manage anxiety relief using medications, supplements and pheromones.
