Small Animal Anesthesia Mechanical Ventilation

Course Details

This lecture has been RACE approved for 2 CE hours for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Learning Objectives:

• The attendee will learn of the negative consequences of controlled ventilation for the surgical small animal patient.
• The attendee will be able to know the scientific indication, contraindications, precautions, and basic set up for a small animal patient requiring positive pressure ventilation for respiratory efficiency during surgery.
• The attendee will become familiar with different terminology, variables of respiration, modes of ventilation, types of ventilators, and disease processes requiring controlled ventilation during anesthesia.
• The attendee will be able to monitor, trouble shoot and modify variables of mechanical ventilation during anesthesia.
• The attendee will learn to wean the patient from ventilation and how to monitor for post operative complications.
