The Conundrum of Implementation – From Evidence Based Research to Clinical Practice

Course Details

This lecture has been RACE approved for 1.0 CE hour for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Program Description:

On average it takes 17 years for researched information to make its way to a clinical practice setting. This course will begin with a brief discussion on implementation research to explain why this lag time exists and leads into a discussion of recent research papers in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia.

A panel of 3 experts will explain how they look at a research paper to determine the clinical relevance and how that information can be implemented into clinical practice. Topics that will be discussed include anesthesia safety and medical errors, a fresh look at buprenorphine and the role it has during an opioid shortage and a novel route of administration for drugs at the acupuncture site GV 20.

Agenda:

  • Implementation Science
  • Safety and Medial Errors in Veterinary Anesthesia
  • Beauty of Buprenorphine and the role it is playing in the face of another opioid shortage
  • Novel route of administration – GV 20 acupuncture site

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand physiologic and pharmacologic changes of different, and commonly used drugs during anesthesia and analgesia of small animals.
  2. Allow for decisions to be made based on knowledge and evidence.
