Program Description:

The course will provide an overview of the science behind blood pressure monitoring to understand where the readings arise from, how they correlate to the patient status, and what to expect for “normal.” There will be a breakdown of non-invasive and invasive monitoring options will provide a how-to-use and its importance in the anesthetic event. We will discuss clinical application examples that require the listener to compile their knowledge and information given within the lecture to appropriately assess and identify necessary patient management.

Learning Objectives:

• The attendee will differentiate between systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressure, as well as understand where these numbers arise from.
• The attendee will be able to recognize and apply time appropriate uses for non-invasive and invasive blood pressure methods.
• The attendee will be able to identify the cause for hypotension, whether patient-related or equipment-related.
• The attendee will be able to create hypotension treatment plan options for discussion and application with the supervising veterinarian.
