Thoracic Radiology: Tips for Diagnostic Success

Course Details

This lecture has been RACE approved for 1 CE hour for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

This one-hour lecture will begin by briefly addressing the composition of a technically well-executed thoracic radiographic study (VD and lateral views), with special consideration given to straightness of positioning, centering and phase of respiration. The remainder of the hour will address clinical topics. The primary focus will be on the assessment for heart failure using radiography. Particular consideration will be given to non-cardiac technical and anatomic factors which complicate the assessment for heart failure. Reliable indicators of cardiac disease will then be addressed, including, application of various metrics for heart size determination and tips for accurately recognizing pulmonary edema. Multiple case examples will be employed to illustrate both the technical and clinical points.
