Understanding Feline and Canine Tooth Resorption
This lecture has been RACE approved for 1 CE hour for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
The objective of this lecture is to give attendees a good understanding of tooth resorption in the dog and the cat. In this 50-minute lecture attendees will learn to recognize symptoms of the disease, the appearance of tooth resorption clinically and radiographically, and to describe affected dental tissues. A portion of the lecture will review the histopathology of the lesion, and pertinent theories regarding the pathogenesis of this confounding disease. Attendees should be able to differentiate types and stages of tooth resorption, and learn currently accepted classification systems. Past and present nomenclature will be reviewed. Treatment of tooth resorption using standard extraction technique, and crown amputation with intentional root retention will be presented.
