Obtaining rapid and reliable vascular access is an essential skill for veterinarians and technicians, especially in the emergency setting. Technicians will learn about methods of obtaining rapid IV access in emergency situations and alternative techniques for access in critical patients. Techniques will include peripheral vein mini cut-down, peripheral vein true cut-down, jugular catheter placement with modified Seldinger technique, jugular cut-down, and intraosseous catheterization. Information about catheter maintenance will also be discussed.
