This lecture will cover the emergency treatment and management of acute glaucoma. We will review the physiology and dynamics of aqueous humor production and drainage in the normal eye and the abnormalities in the aqueous humor drainage that result in an increase of intraocular pressure. A discussion of topical antiglaucoma medications, systemic medications, and alternatives for appropriate medical management of acute glaucoma is also included.
